Secure Your Home with a Reliable Lever Lock with Key

When you need both security and ease of use, a quality lever lock with key is the perfect solution. Whether you are securing an exterior door against unwanted entry or adding privacy to a home office or bedroom, these locks provide the perfect balance of protection and everyday convenience.

Our keyed entry lever locks are designed for doors where keyed security is needed. The exterior side features a key cylinder for locking and unlocking. The interior side typically includes a turn piece or thumb turn for easy locking without a key.

This thoughtful design means you can secure your home from the inside with a simple twist, while requiring a key for entry from the outside.

How a Keyed Lever Lock Works

Understanding the mechanism helps you appreciate the engineering behind these reliable locks. When the door is locked, the latch bolt is held firmly in place so the lever cannot be turned. To unlock it, you insert a key into the cylinder and turn.

The key’s unique ridges align with internal pins or wafers inside the lock tumbler. This allows the cylinder to rotate and release the locking mechanism.

Inside the lock, a spindle connects the exterior lever to the interior turn piece and latch mechanism. When unlocked, turning either lever retracts the spring-loaded latch bolt, allowing the door to open.

It is a simple, time-tested design that provides reliable security for millions of homes worldwide.

Premium Materials for Lasting Durability

Our lever locks are constructed from high-quality materials designed to withstand daily use while maintaining their appearance and functionality for years.

The lock bodies are typically made from zinc alloy or solid brass. This provides excellent strength and corrosion resistance. The latch and deadbolt components are often manufactured from brass or hardened steel. This ensures they resist sawing and other tampering attempts.

The exterior finish options, including satin nickel, matte black, polished brass, and chrome, are applied using durable electroplating processes. These resist tarnishing, fading, and corrosion. Many premium locks also feature antimicrobial protection, keeping the surface 99.9 percent cleaner than unprotected hardware.

What security ratings should I look for?

In North America, lock security is typically rated by the American National Standards Institute and the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association. These grades indicate the lock’s durability, security, and finish quality.

Grade 1 is heavy commercial and residential. It is the highest security rating, offering maximum strength and durability. It is suitable for high-traffic areas and exterior doors requiring the best protection.

Grade 2 is light commercial and heavy residential. It offers excellent security for most residential applications, including exterior doors. This grade provides a great balance of security and value.

Grade 3 is residential. It is good for standard residential interior doors and some exterior applications where budget is a primary concern.

For exterior doors, we recommend at least Grade 2 certification. Many of our locks are ANSI/BHMA Grade 2 or Grade AAA certified. This ensures they meet rigorous standards for security, durability, and finish.

Are these locks ADA compliant?

Many lever-style locks are designed with accessibility in mind. Lever handles are significantly easier to operate than traditional knobs. They require only a pushing or pulling motion rather than a tight grip and twist.

Some models meet ADA requirements, ensuring they are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Always check the product specifications for ADA compliance if this is a priority for your installation.

SmartKey and Re-Keying Technology

Modern lever locks often feature innovative technology that makes them more convenient and secure than ever. Many of our locks include SmartKey Security technology, which offers two significant benefits.

First, it provides protection against break-ins. SmartKey technology is specifically designed to protect against advanced break-in techniques like lock picking and bumping.

Second, it allows easy re-keying. If you need to change your keys, you can re-key the lock yourself in seconds. No locksmith is required. The SmartKey tool allows you to reset the lock’s cylinder to work with any new key of the appropriate keyway.

This technology gives you complete control over your home’s security without the expense and hassle of professional re-keying.

Can I have multiple locks keyed alike?

Absolutely. Many homeowners prefer to have all their exterior locks operate with the same key for convenience. Several options are available.

Keyed Alike Sets are available from some manufacturers. They offer locks that come pre-configured to use the same Lever lock with key . This is perfect for front and back doors or multiple entry points.

Smart Key Compatibility allows you to easily re-key multiple Lever lock with key  to match a single key. Simply re-key each lock using the same master key.

Locksmith Services can also re-pin standard cylinders to create a master key system for all your locks.

What door sizes are these locks compatible with?

Our lever locks are designed to fit standard residential doors.

Typical specifications include door thickness of 1-3/8 inches to 1-3/4 inches. Backset is adjustable to 2-3/8 inches or 2-3/4 inches. Cross bore is 2-1/8 inches standard.

The adjustable latch mechanism means you do not need special tools to adapt the lock to your specific door dimensions.

Easy DIY Installation

One of the great advantages of modern Lever lock with key  is how easy they are to install. Most installations require only a screwdriver and take just minutes to complete.

First, remove your old lock and clean the door surface. Second, install the new latch into the edge of the door. Ensure the adjustable backset matches your door’s dimensions.

Third, attach the exterior lever assembly with the key cylinder facing outward. Fourth, attach the interior lever assembly with the turn piece, feeding the spindle through the latch mechanism.

Fifth, secure with screws and test the operation. Sixth, install the strike plate on the door frame, ensuring the latch aligns properly.

Most Lever lock with key come with complete instructions, mounting hardware, and both round and square corner faceplates to match your door’s preparation.

Reversible for Left or Right-Handed Doors

All quality lever locks feature a fully reversible design. This means the same lock can be installed on both left-handed and right-handed doors without any special modification.

The Lever lock with key orientation can be adjusted during installation to ensure the handle always points in the correct direction. It points up for closed and down for open.

Ideal Applications Throughout Your Home

Keyed lever locks are versatile enough for virtually any door in your home.

For exterior doors, they secure front doors, back doors, side entrances, and garage entry doors with the security of keyed entry. For home offices, they secure sensitive documents and equipment with a lock that requires a key from the hallway side.

For bedrooms, they add privacy for adult bedrooms or guest rooms. For basement and storage areas, they keep utility rooms and storage closets secure.

For workshops and sheds, they protect valuable tools and equipment.
